Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant is a cult-status rebalancing face mask formulated with a remarkably high concentration of Yeast Extract, its first ingredient, alongside purifying clays, Cucumber Extract, Witch Hazel, Vinegar and Lactic Acid. It helps rebalance skin experiencing excess sebum, visible pores and recurring imperfections.

Together, the formula approaches oil-prone skin from several directions at once: absorbing excess surface sebum, supporting purification, refining texture and helping restore a more balanced-looking complexion. It is less a simple clay mask than a Biologique Recherche purifying mask with clay in it.

The goal is not to leave the face feeling stripped: skin needs sebum, and the concern is excess. After 15 minutes, skin feels exceptionally clean and refreshed, excess shine appears reduced, texture looks more refined and pores appear less noticeable. Its distinctive brown texture and unmistakable scent are part of the experience.

Combination skin doesn't read instruction manuals: apply Masque Vivant only where oil and congestion show, and a more hydrating mask everywhere else.

How to use

1. After cleansing and the Lotion P50 selected for your Skin Instant, apply Masque Vivant over the face, neck and décolleté, avoiding the eyes and eye-contour area.
2. For combination skin, concentrate it where oil and congestion are most visible, such as the T-zone.
3. Leave on for 15 minutes; it does not need to dry until it cracks.
4. At removal, emulsify the mask with cold water, then rinse thoroughly using moistened cotton or non-woven gauze.
5. Follow with the Biologique Recherche serums and cream appropriate for your Skin Instant.
6. For external use only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Masque Vivant contain live yeast?

The current official INCI lists Yeast Extract as the first ingredient. Some older descriptions call it "live yeast", but Biologique Recherche's current ingredient list identifies it as Yeast Extract.

Why does it smell unusual?

Its distinctive scent comes from its highly concentrated formula, including Yeast Extract, Vinegar and botanical ingredients. It is not designed to smell like perfume.

Can sensitive skin use Masque Vivant?

It depends on your current Skin Instant. The formula contains purifying clays, Alcohol Denat. and Lactic Acid, so highly reactive or compromised skin may need another mask. Ask us before introducing it.

How often should I use it?

It depends on your current Skin Instant. Oilier, more congested skin may tolerate it more often, while combination or reactive skin may benefit from less frequent or localized use.

Should it dry completely on my face?

No. After 15 minutes, emulsify with cold water and remove thoroughly; it does not need to become dry or cracked.

Can I mix Masque Vivant with Complexe Iribiol?

Yes, a few drops of Complexe Iribiol are commonly added for oily, blemish-prone Skin Instants. This more intensive version is not the place to start if your skin is reactive or new to active skincare.
