P50 PIGM 400 is the lotion we reach for when a client tells us their skin looks dull and uneven, that every blemish leaves a dark mark behind, or that they want P50 but pigmentation is their biggest concern.

Pigmentation does not need to be attacked, and more exfoliation does not automatically create a more even complexion. We like P50 PIGM 400 because it brings controlled exfoliation, pigmentation-focused ingredients and antioxidant support together in one step.

Why do dark spots form?

Melanin gives skin its colour, and producing it is normal. But sun exposure, past blemishes or inflammation, hormonal influences and time can make it uneven: brown spots, patches and post-blemish marks. Pigmentation is rarely a surface-only concern, so a good routine works on both the pigmented surface cells and what keeps pigmentation uneven over time.

Our lens: the goal is never to make your natural skin tone lighter. It is to soften the contrast of unwanted spots so the complexion looks more uniform and luminous. And because UV is one of the main triggers, daily sunscreen is part of any routine focused on dark spots.

A thoughtful choice if…

Your skin looks dull and uneven, with visible dark spots, post-blemish discoloration or sun-related pigmentation, and you want brightening alongside gentle, progressive exfoliation. Biologique Recherche also identifies it as an ideal first Lotion P50.

Consider first…

If excess sebum, shine and congestion are your main concern, Lotion P50T is the other face P50 available in Canada. If your skin is fragile, reactive, irritated or has an impaired barrier, book a consultation first. Do not use during treatment with retinoic acid.

  1. Start with clean skin

    Cleanse with the Biologique Recherche cleanser suited to your Skin Instant.

  2. Dab on Lotion P50 PIGM 400

    Apply with gentle upward dabbing movements. Do not rub or scrub, and avoid the eye contour.

  3. Follow with serum and cream

    Let the lotion settle, then continue with the serums and creams chosen for your Skin Instant.

  4. Finish with SPF

    Avoid immediate sun exposure after application. Daily sunscreen is essential when dark spots are a concern.

During the first week, moisten the cotton pad with water before applying the lotion. After the first week, apply it to a dry pad. Do not use on scratched or irritated skin, or during treatment with retinoic acid. Not for children under 3. For external use only.

Which Lotion P50 formulas are available in Canada?

Two for the face: Lotion P50 PIGM 400 and Lotion P50T. Lotion P50, P50W and P50V are not currently available here. Neither is “better”: choose P50 PIGM 400 for dullness, dark spots and uneven pigmentation, and P50T for excess sebum, shine and congestion. We also carry Lotion P50 Corps for the body and Lotion P50 Capillaire for the scalp.

Is P50 PIGM 400 a skin-lightening product? Can all skin tones use it?

We would not describe it that way. Biologique Recherche positions it as a brightening, anti-dark spot lotion for uneven pigmentation, and its recommendation is based on your Skin Instant, not your natural skin tone. The goal is to reduce the visible contrast of unwanted spots while preserving your natural complexion.

Does it help sun spots and post-acne marks?

It is relevant for visible dark spots and uneven pigmentation, including marks left behind by past blemishes. Because UV exposure contributes to pigmentation, daily sunscreen is essential. If redness, post-acne marks and skin restoration are the bigger concern, Iso-Placenta may provide complementary support.

What acids are in P50 PIGM 400? Does it contain vitamin C?

The current formula includes lactic acid, mandelic acid, gluconolactone, salicylic acid, phytic acid and citric acid. It also contains ascorbic acid, a form of vitamin C, alongside niacinamide and botanical extracts. This multi-acid approach is what sets it apart from a simple brightening toner.

Is P50 PIGM 400 good for beginners? Can I use it every day?

Biologique Recherche identifies it as an ideal first Lotion P50 when pigmentation and dullness are concerns. Introduce it progressively with the damp-cotton method for the first week, and let frequency follow your Skin Instant and tolerance rather than increasing intensity right away.

Should Lotion P50 PIGM 400 tingle?

Some sensation can happen when introducing an exfoliating lotion, but tingling is not the measure of whether it works. Burning, persistent stinging, pronounced redness or discomfort should not be pushed through. If your skin feels increasingly irritated, stop and contact our team.

Can sensitive skin use P50 PIGM 400? Can I use it with retinol?

It depends on your current Skin Instant. It is an active multi-acid formula, so if your skin is fragile, reactive, scratched, irritated or has an impaired barrier, another approach may suit you better. Biologique Recherche states it should not be used during treatment with retinoic acid. If you use retinol or a prescription retinoid, contact our team before layering actives.

What is the difference between Lotion P50 PIGM 400 and Sérum PIGM 400?

The lotion is the exfoliating preparation step: surface-cell renewal, brightness and preparing the skin. The serum is the targeted step for visible pigmentation marks and uneven tone. When pigmentation is a significant concern, the two complement each other in a personalized routine.

Can I use P50 PIGM 400 around my eyes?

No. Biologique Recherche advises avoiding both the eyes and the eye contour area.

So far, so good, after using this product for 2 weeks. Skin is smooth and the product has replaced my other exfoliants for now. Can’t say that I’ve seen a difference in post-inflammatory pigmentation yet, but we shall see with continued use.

I've used P50 for almost 10 years now. I recently ran out and for the first time ever, I gave my skin a short (2 weeks) break from P50 Pigm 400 and I realized I can't live without it.
