Allantoin

Allantoin

[əˈlantōən]

The Soothing Skincare Ingredient.

A crystalline oxidation product C4H6N4O3 of uric acid used to promote healing of local wounds and infections that can be found naturally in the roots & leaves of the comfrey plant, but more often than not, what's in the cosmetic products is produced synthetically. It helps hydrate skin and lock in moisture. It's one of the rare ingredients that can do both.

Allantoin is a water-soluble humectant ingredient that fights transepidermal water loss (tewl).

It's not only soothing (prevents itchy, flaky, dry skin by softening the dead skin) but it' also skin-softening and protecting and can promote wound healing.

Allantoin supports collagen synthesis. it stimulates the fibroblasts (cells responsible for producing collagen) and boosts extracellular matrix synthesis. New healthy skin, faster.

It's also an excellent anti-irritant.
