Bioactive Gel is the step we suggest when skin is both congested and uneven. A blend of glycolic, gluconic, citric and salicylic acids smooths the surface and helps keep pores clear, while kojic acid, arbutin, bearberry and licorice work on the look of dark spots and marks left behind by old blemishes.

It is the third step of the Biophora routine for oily and congested skin, right after Bioactive Solution. Because it contains alcohol, it is not the one for dry or sensitized skin; if that sounds like you, ask us about a gentler option.

Bioactive Gel or Lactic Acid Serum?

Both exfoliate, but they suit different skin. Bioactive Gel combines glycolic and salicylic acids with brightening kojic acid and arbutin, in an alcohol base made for oily, congested skin. Lactic Acid Serum relies on lactic acid, which is gentler and helps the skin hold on to moisture, with niacinamide to balance oil.

Our lens: if your skin is oily, breakout-prone and rarely feels tight, Bioactive Gel is the stronger fit. If it is combination, a little dry in places, or new to acids, start with Lactic Acid Serum. Never layer both on the same evening.
