THE FAMILY-RECIPE SCALP + HAIR OIL
Some of the best hair rituals were never invented in a lab.
They were passed down.
BUR BUR Growing Season Burdock Hair Oil began with the burdock oil co-founder Ksenia Zaytseva's grandmother used in her own beauty routine. Today it is a high-performance botanical pre-wash treatment that pairs burdock and nettle with jojoba, baobab, olive squalane and plant proteins to nourish the scalp and visibly strengthen the hair.
Massaged into the scalp and worked through the lengths before shampooing, it leaves hair feeling softer, smoother and shinier, with a scalp that feels cared for rather than stripped.
This is the weekly ritual we recommend when hair needs nourishment, strength and patience, not another quick fix.
Who It's For:
We particularly think about Growing Season Hair Oil when hair or scalp is:
- Dry, brittle or prone to breakage
- Dull and lacking shine
- Stressed by heat styling, colour or the Canadian climate
- Feeling tight or dry at the scalp
- In need of a slow, consistent weekly treatment
- Curly, coily or textured and craving extra nourishment
Why Burdock?
Burdock root has been used in hair care traditions across Eastern Europe and Asia for generations. It is the heart of every BUR BUR formula, and it is where the brand's name comes from: the bur is the prickly flower head of the burdock plant.
In Growing Season, burdock and nettle are infused into organic olive oil, then supported by:
- Nourishing oils (jojoba, baobab, argan, sesame, sunflower) for softness and shine
- Olive squalane for a light, silky slip
- Amaranth, quinoa and rice proteins to help the hair feel stronger
- Bakuchiol and rosemary as part of the scalp-care complex
The result is an oil that treats the scalp and the lengths at the same time.
How to Use:
- Apply the oil to dry hair, before shampooing.
- Massage gently into the scalp, then work it through the hair from root to tip.
- Leave on for at least 45 minutes. For best results, leave it on for 2 hours or more.
- Shampoo and condition as usual. For finer hair, shampoo twice.
- Use at least once a week.
Hair types 3B to 4C may also use a small amount as a leave-in on the lengths.
For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not apply to irritated or broken skin.
Loshen & Crem's Recommendation:
Growing Season is what we think about when a client tells us:
- "My hair just feels weak lately."
- "My ends keep breaking."
- "My scalp feels dry all winter."
- "I want a ritual, not ten products."
Our advice is simple: be consistent. One evening a week, apply the oil, massage the scalp for a few minutes, and let it sit while you read or relax. Hair care rewards regularity far more than intensity.
The Growing Season Ritual
- Treat: Growing Season Burdock Hair Oil on dry hair, 45 minutes to overnight.
- Stimulate (optional): Growing Season Scalp Derma Roller, used on a clean scalp before the oil, no more than twice a week.
- Wash: Growing Season Nourishing Shampoo, twice if needed.
- Condition: Growing Season Nourishing Conditioner, or the Deep Repair Mask once or twice a week.
- Detangle: The Mermaid Wet Detangling Brush on damp hair.
Hair Oil vs. Deep Repair Mask
- Hair Oil → scalp + lengths, before washing
- Deep Repair Mask → lengths + ends, after washing
If your concern starts at the scalp, begin with the oil. If your lengths feel dry and rough, the mask is your priority. Many clients use both.
Key Ingredients:
- Burdock Root Extract (organic): The botanical at the heart of BUR BUR, traditionally used in scalp and hair care rituals.
- Nettle Leaf Extract (organic): A traditional botanical used to support scalp care.
- Jojoba Seed Oil (organic): Close in composition to the scalp's own sebum; softens without heaviness.
- Olive Squalane: A lightweight emollient that helps restore slip and softness.
- Baobab Seed Oil (organic): A rich oil that helps nourish dry lengths.
- Amaranth, Quinoa & Rice Proteins: Help the hair feel stronger and more resilient.
- Bakuchiol: A plant-derived ingredient included in the scalp-care complex.

Questions We Get About Growing Season Hair Oil
Will Growing Season Hair Oil make my hair grow?
We prefer to be precise. Growing Season is a cosmetic scalp and hair treatment. It nourishes the scalp, visibly strengthens the hair and helps reduce breakage, which helps you keep the length you have. It is not a treatment for hair loss.
Shedding and thinning can have many causes, including hormonal, nutritional, stress-related and medical ones. If you notice sudden or significant hair loss, please speak with your doctor or a dermatologist.
How long should I leave it on?
At least 45 minutes. For best results, 2 hours or more. Many clients apply it in the evening and wash it out the next morning.
How often should I use it?
At least once a week. Consistency matters more than quantity.
Can I use it as a leave-in?
BUR BUR suggests this option for hair types 3B to 4C. For finer hair, use it only as a pre-wash treatment.
Will it make my hair greasy?
It is an oil, so rinse thoroughly. If your hair is fine, shampoo twice after the treatment.
Is it vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes. The formula is vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologist-tested.
