Serums, concentrates and face oils allow a skincare routine to become more precise. Their formulas can be selected according to the skin’s current needs, whether the goal is hydration, radiance, a more even-looking tone, visible firmness, barrier support or improved clarity.

A serum is generally a lightweight formula designed to deliver selected ingredients within a specific step of the routine. “Concentrate” often describes a more focused formula, but the term is not standardized and does not automatically indicate greater strength. Face oils supply lipids that can support comfort, softness and moisture retention, particularly when the skin feels dry or depleted.

Hyaluronic acid, glycerin and beta-glucan help attract and retain hydration. Vitamin C and other antioxidants help defend against environmental oxidative stress while supporting radiance. Water-based serums are generally applied after cleansing and toning but before moisturizer. Face oils are often used after moisturizer or as directed by the individual formula. When using retinoids or exfoliating serums, follow the product instructions and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day.
