An intensive leave-on exfoliating solution for oily, congested and blemish-prone skin

Le Mieux Beta Acid is a clarifying treatment formulated with salicylic and lactic acids to address excess oil, clogged-looking pores, uneven texture and post-blemish discoloration. Unlike a rinse-off cleanser, this concentrated solution remains on the skin to provide continued exfoliating action.

Salicylic acid helps loosen oil and dead-cell buildup within congested-looking pores, while lactic acid refines the skin’s surface and supports a smoother, more even-looking complexion. Botanical extracts, including chamomile, cucumber, mallow and elderflower, complement the active formula with conditioning benefits.

Because Beta Acid has an alcohol-based, fast-drying texture, it is best introduced gradually and used as a treatment rather than an everyday hydrating toner.

Benefits
  • Helps remove excess surface oil and pore-clogging buildup
  • Clarifies congested-looking pores and blemish-prone areas
  • Refines rough or uneven-looking skin texture
  • Helps improve the appearance of flat post-blemish marks
  • Supports a smoother, clearer-looking complexion
  • Combines oil-soluble and surface-level exfoliation
  • Can be applied across oily areas or limited to specific zones
  • Fast-drying texture layers easily beneath serum and moisturizer
Best For

Beta Acid is particularly well suited to:

  • Oily and combination skin
  • Congested or clogged-looking pores
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Recurring blemish-prone areas
  • Excess shine and visible oiliness
  • Uneven or rough-looking texture
  • Flat post-blemish discoloration
  • Skin already familiar with exfoliating acids

This formula may be too drying for sensitive, dehydrated or barrier-impaired skin. It should not be applied to broken, freshly picked, sunburned or visibly irritated areas.

Why It Is Different

Beta Acid pairs salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid, with lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid. This combination addresses both oily congestion and uneven surface texture, making it more targeted toward blemish-prone skin than a traditional brightening toner.

Its alcohol and witch hazel base creates a lightweight, fast-drying finish. This can be helpful for oily skin, but it also makes careful application and gradual introduction especially important.

  • Salicylic Acid: An oil-soluble exfoliating acid that helps loosen dead cells and excess oil associated with clogged-looking pores.
  • Lactic Acid: A surface-renewing alpha hydroxy acid that helps smooth texture and improve the appearance of uneven tone.
  • Witch Hazel Extract: Provides an astringent effect that helps reduce the appearance of excess oil.
  • Chamomile Flower Extract: Helps condition and comfort the skin.
  • Cucumber Fruit Extract: Provides refreshing and soothing benefits.
  • Mallow and Elderflower Extracts: Botanical extracts that help condition the complexion.
  • SD Alcohol 40-B: Creates the formula’s quick-drying texture but may feel drying on sensitive or dehydrated skin.
How to Use

Use in the evening.

After cleansing, apply three to four drops to a cotton pad and gently smooth over the face or congested areas, avoiding the eyes, lips and broken skin. Do not rinse.

Begin two or three evenings per week. Increase the frequency gradually only if the skin remains comfortable. Once absorbed, follow with a hydrating serum and moisturizer.

A mild, brief tingling sensation may occur. Persistent burning, pronounced redness, excessive dryness or flaking are signs to discontinue use temporarily.

Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning while using this product.

Loshen & Crem’s Recommendation

Treat Beta Acid as an active exfoliating treatment—not as a toner that must be used every day.

For combination skin, concentrate application through the T-zone or other congested areas instead of automatically applying it across the entire face. If you are new to exfoliating acids, begin twice weekly and give the skin time to respond before increasing frequency.

Avoid using Beta Acid in the same evening as Le Mieux 5% Glyco Polymer Solution, a retinoid, another leave-on acid or a strong exfoliating treatment. Clients using benzoyl peroxide should alternate applications initially to reduce the risk of dryness.

If the skin begins feeling tight, shiny, unusually sensitive or uncomfortable, pause the product and prioritize hydration and barrier support. More exfoliation does not necessarily produce clearer skin—sometimes it simply produces angrier skin, and nobody invited that drama.

Complete the Le Mieux Clarifying Routine
  1. Cleanse: Phyto-Nutrient Cleansing Gel
  2. Treat: Beta Acid two or three evenings per week
  3. Hydrate: Hyaluronic Serum after Beta Acid has fully absorbed
  4. Soothe: O² Calming Gel or a moisturizer suited to your skin
  5. Protect: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning

When beginning Beta Acid, use a gentle cleanser instead of pairing it immediately with Exfoliating Cleansing Gel. Once tolerance is established, the products may be alternated according to the skin’s needs.

Beta Acid, A&E Corrector or 5% Glyco Polymer Solution?

These treatments address different versions of congestion and uneven texture.

  • Choose Beta Acid for oily skin, blackheads, clogged-looking pores and recurring congestion across larger areas. It is a leave-on salicylic and lactic acid treatment.
  • Choose A&E Corrector for individual visible blemishes. Its tinted formula combines sulfur, clay and exfoliating ingredients for precise spot application.
  • Choose 5% Glyco Polymer Solution when uneven surface texture, dullness, fine lines and general radiance are the primary concerns. It is centred around glycolic acid rather than salicylic acid.
  • Choose Exfoliating Cleansing Gel when you prefer exfoliating ingredients in a rinse-off cleansing step with shorter skin contact.

Most clients do not need all four products in the same routine. Selecting the treatment that most closely matches the primary concern will usually be more effective and considerably kinder to the skin barrier.

Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid

Salicylic and lactic acids exfoliate the skin differently.

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, allowing it to work within the oily environment associated with congested-looking pores. It is particularly useful for excess sebum, blackheads, whiteheads and blemish-prone skin.

Lactic acid is a water-soluble alpha hydroxy acid that primarily exfoliates the skin’s surface. It helps smooth rough texture and improve the appearance of uneven tone and post-blemish discoloration.

Using both ingredients can provide more comprehensive exfoliation, but the finished formula and frequency of application matter. Beta Acid does not disclose the percentage of either acid, so tolerance should guide use.

Ingredients
  • Salicylic Acid: Helps clear excess oil and dead-cell buildup from congested-looking pores.
  • Lactic Acid: Smooths uneven surface texture and supports a more even-looking complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Beta Acid a toner?

Not in the traditional hydrating sense. Beta Acid is a leave-on exfoliating treatment containing salicylic and lactic acids. It should be introduced according to skin tolerance rather than automatically used after every cleanse.

Can Beta Acid be used every day?

Le Mieux recommends using it as needed, but daily use will not suit everyone. Loshen & Crem recommends beginning two or three evenings per week and increasing only if the skin remains comfortable.

Can I use it only on my T-zone?

Yes. Applying Beta Acid only to the forehead, nose, chin or other congested areas can help limit unnecessary dryness elsewhere on the face.

Will Beta Acid help with blackheads?

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and can help loosen the oil and dead-cell buildup associated with blackheads and clogged-looking pores. Results require consistent use and may vary according to the cause and severity of the congestion.

Can Beta Acid help with acne scars?

It may improve the appearance of flat post-blemish discoloration and mild surface irregularity. It cannot remove indented, raised or structural acne scars, which generally require professional assessment and treatment.

Does Beta Acid cause purging?

Exfoliating acids can sometimes bring existing congestion to the surface more quickly. However, widespread burning, itching, persistent redness or breakouts in entirely new areas should not automatically be dismissed as purging. Those symptoms may indicate irritation.

Can sensitive skin use Beta Acid?

This may not be the best first choice for highly sensitive or barrier-impaired skin. The formula contains salicylic acid, lactic acid, witch hazel and SD Alcohol 40-B. Patch testing and gradual use are strongly recommended.

Can I combine it with A&E Corrector?

Using both on the same area may increase dryness. Begin with one treatment at a time. If both are needed, alternate evenings or reserve A&E Corrector for an individual spot that has not already been treated with Beta Acid.

Can I use it with retinol?

Alternate Beta Acid and retinol on different evenings when beginning. Applying both in the same routine may increase dryness, peeling and irritation without necessarily producing better results.

Can it be combined with Exfoliating Cleansing Gel?

It may be possible once tolerance is established, but the combination can be overly drying. Begin Beta Acid with a gentle cleanser and introduce other exfoliating products cautiously.

Is Beta Acid fragrance-free?

No parfum or added fragrance is listed in the published INCI. However, the formula contains several botanical extracts and alcohol, so fragrance-reactive or highly sensitive skin should still patch test.

Can I use Beta Acid if I have an aspirin or salicylate allergy?

Beta Acid contains salicylic acid. Anyone with a known aspirin or salicylate allergy should avoid using it unless a physician has specifically confirmed that topical use is appropriate.

Can Beta Acid be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Topical salicylic acid recommendations can vary according to concentration, application area and individual circumstances. Consult your physician or qualified healthcare provider before using Beta Acid during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Is sunscreen necessary?

Yes. Lactic acid exfoliates the skin’s surface and may increase sensitivity to sunlight. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning and limit unnecessary sun exposure.
