A ceramide-rich overnight balm that seals in moisture and comforts dry, depleted skin

Le Mieux Midnight Balm Sleep Mask is a concentrated oil-based treatment created to soften, replenish and protect moisture-depleted skin while you sleep. Its velvety texture melts between the fingertips, forming a nourishing final layer that helps reduce overnight moisture loss.

Squalane, Abyssinian oil, meadowfoam oil and prickly pear seed oil form the foundation of the formula, while five ceramides and cholesterol help support the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Peptides, rosehip oil and antioxidant botanical extracts complement the barrier-focused blend with visible texture, elasticity and radiance benefits.

Unlike a water-based hydrating mask, Midnight Balm primarily works by providing lipids and sealing in the hydration applied beneath it. It is ideal as the final step over serum or moisturizer, particularly on dry areas requiring additional protection.

Benefits
  • Seals in moisture to help prevent overnight dehydration
  • Replenishes the skin with squalane and nourishing botanical oils
  • Supports the moisture barrier with five ceramides and cholesterol
  • Softens rough, flaky or tight-feeling areas
  • Helps improve the appearance of fine dehydration lines
  • Supports smoother, more supple-looking skin
  • Helps comfort visible redness and dryness
  • Provides peptides for additional age-supportive care
  • Protects moisture-depleted skin from dry indoor environments
  • Can be applied selectively rather than over the entire face
  • Melts easily for a smooth, cushioning application
  • Includes a hygienic magnetic applicator wand
Best For

Midnight Balm Sleep Mask is particularly well suited to:

  • Dry and very dry skin
  • Normal-to-dry skin during colder seasons
  • Dehydration and overnight moisture loss
  • Rough, flaky or tight-feeling areas
  • Early fine lines related to dryness
  • Loss of suppleness or elasticity
  • Mature and lipid-depleted skin
  • Skin exposed to cold weather or dry indoor heating
  • Travel-related dryness
  • Dry cheeks, around the nose and other targeted areas
  • Selected sensitive skin that tolerates rosewood oil
  • Clients who prefer a rich finishing balm

This may not be the ideal full-face treatment for very oily or highly congestion-prone skin. The formula contains rosewood oil and should be patch tested by clients who react to essential oils or naturally aromatic ingredients.

Why It Is Different

Midnight Balm is an oil-forward sealing treatment rather than a conventional water-based sleeping mask. Its first ingredients are squalane and botanical oils, and no water or aqua appears in the published ingredient list.

This makes it particularly useful as the final step over water-based hydration. Instead of replacing serum or moisturizer, it helps reduce the evaporation of the moisture those products provide.

  • Squalane: Provides lightweight, skin-compatible emollient moisture and helps soften dry skin.
  • Abyssinian Oil: Rich in long-chain fatty acids that help improve suppleness and reduce moisture loss.
  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Conditions and helps create a protective, cushiony finish.
  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil: Provides essential fatty acids and antioxidant support.
  • Five-Ceramide Complex: Ceramides EOP, NS, NP, AS and AP help replenish lipids within the moisture barrier.
  • Cholesterol: Complements the ceramide system and supports barrier resilience.
  • Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: Support smoother, firmer-looking skin.
  • Rosehip Seed Oil: Provides nourishing fatty acids and antioxidant support.
  • Angelica Root and Purple Gromwell Extracts: Help comfort the appearance of stressed and visibly red skin.
  • Licorice Root Extract: Provides soothing and antioxidant benefits.
  • Japanese Indigo Extract: Helps condition and comfort the skin.
  • Vitamin E: Provides antioxidant support while helping condition the skin.
How to Use

Use as the final step of your evening skincare routine.

  1. Complete your water-based serum and moisturizer steps.
  2. Use the wide end of the applicator wand to scoop out a small amount of balm.
  3. Warm the balm between clean fingertips until it begins to melt.
  4. Gently press it onto targeted areas requiring additional nourishment.
  5. Leave on overnight.
  6. Wipe the applicator wand clean after use and return the magnetic end to the lid.

Begin two or three evenings per week and increase according to your skin’s needs and tolerance.

A thin layer is sufficient. Applying a heavy coating will not necessarily provide better results and may feel excessively occlusive.

Avoid the eyelids, lash line and broken skin. Use around freshly treated skin only when approved by the professional performing the treatment.

Loshen & Crem’s Recommendation

Midnight Balm was practically made for an Edmonton winter. Cold outdoor air, indoor heating and rapid temperature changes can leave even normally balanced skin feeling tight, flaky and depleted.

The key is to use it as a seal—not as the skin’s only source of hydration. Apply a water-based serum such as Dream Drops or Hyaluronic Serum first, follow with moisturizer if needed, then press a small amount of Midnight Balm onto the driest areas.

We especially recommend it for:

  • Dry cheeks
  • Flaking around the nose
  • Tightness around the mouth
  • Wind-exposed areas
  • Overnight flights and dry hotel environments
  • Seasonal dryness caused by indoor heating

Be cautious when applying it over retinol, exfoliating acids or another highly active treatment. Occlusive products can sometimes increase the penetration and irritation potential of products applied beneath them. Use Midnight Balm on non-active evenings or restrict it to areas that did not receive the active treatment.

Although it can be helpful when the barrier feels depleted, do not automatically apply it immediately after laser, microneedling, peels or another professional procedure. The formula contains rosewood oil, so post-procedure use should be approved by your skincare professional.

Complete the Le Mieux Midnight Recovery Routine
  1. Cleanse: Peptide Foam Cleanser or Phyto-Nutrient Cleansing Gel
  2. Hydrate: Dream Drops Overnight Corrective Serum or Hyaluronic Serum
  3. Eye Care: Eye Revive Firming Cream
  4. Moisturize: Essence Moisturizer, Bio Cell Rejuvenating Cream or 24 Hr. Age Defying Cream
  5. Seal: Press Midnight Balm onto dry or depleted areas
  6. Protect: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning

Midnight Balm should be the final evening step because products applied over it may not absorb evenly.

Midnight Balm, Hyaluronic Shea Mask or Dream Drops?

These products all address dehydration, but they work differently.

  • Choose Midnight Balm for targeted dryness, overnight moisture sealing and lipid replenishment. It is the richest and most occlusive option.
  • Choose Hyaluronic Shea Mask when the skin needs both water-based hydration and creamy nourishment across the face or body.
  • Choose Dream Drops as a treatment serum for expression lines, dehydration and barrier support with Hya10+, peptides and five ceramides.
  • Choose 24 Hr. Age Defying Cream as a daily moisturizer for sustained hydration, firmness and barrier support.
  • Choose O² Calming Gel when lightweight cooling hydration is preferred over oils or a rich balm.

Dry skin may use Dream Drops, moisturizer and Midnight Balm together. Oily or combination skin will generally need only one or two of those steps.

Hydration, Moisture and Occlusion

Hydration and moisture are related, but they are not identical.

Water-based humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin attract and hold water. Emollient oils soften the spaces between dry surface cells. Occlusive ingredients form a protective layer that slows the evaporation of moisture from the skin.

Midnight Balm is primarily an emollient and occlusive product. It contains some humectants, but its formula is dominated by squalane, oils and lipid-rich ingredients.

For the best results, apply it over a hydrating serum or moisturizer. Applying an oil-based balm to severely dehydrated skin without first providing water-based hydration may soften the surface but may not fully address the underlying feeling of dehydration.

Understanding the Five-Ceramide Complex

Midnight Balm contains:

  • Ceramide EOP
  • Ceramide NS
  • Ceramide NP
  • Ceramide AS
  • Ceramide AP

Ceramides are lipids naturally present within the outer skin barrier. Together with cholesterol and fatty components, they help organize and maintain the protective structure responsible for limiting moisture loss.

Topical ceramides support barrier function, but they should not be described as medically repairing every form of damaged or diseased skin.

Rosewood Oil and Sensitive Skin

Midnight Balm contains Aniba Rosodora Wood Oil, commonly known as rosewood oil. This contributes naturally aromatic components to the formula.

Le Mieux lists sensitivity among the product’s intended concerns, and many clients may find the lipid-rich formula comfortable. However, fragrance-reactive or essential-oil-sensitive skin should patch test before applying it broadly.

Do not apply the balm to skin that is broken, freshly resurfaced, actively burning or experiencing a significant inflammatory flare.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Midnight Balm Sleep Mask?

Midnight Balm is a concentrated oil-based overnight treatment formulated to soften dry skin, replenish lipids and reduce moisture loss. It is applied as the final evening skincare step.

Is it a moisturizer or a mask?

It functions as an overnight finishing balm or sleeping mask. It may be sufficient on its own for some skin types, but it is generally most effective over a water-based serum or moisturizer.

Does Midnight Balm hydrate the skin?

It helps maintain hydration by sealing in moisture and providing emollient lipids. Because it is predominantly oil-based, it works best over water-based hydration rather than replacing it.

Does the formula contain water?

Water or aqua does not appear in the published ingredient list. The product is an oil-forward balm rather than a traditional water-based cream.

Should it be applied before or after moisturizer?

Apply it after moisturizer as the final step. Products applied over the balm may not absorb evenly.

Can it be used over the entire face?

Le Mieux recommends applying a small amount to targeted areas. Very dry skin may use a thin layer more broadly, while combination or oily skin should generally restrict it to dry areas.

How often should it be used?

Begin two or three evenings per week or apply as needed. Very dry skin may tolerate nightly use, while combination skin may require it only during cold weather or periods of dryness.

How much should I apply?

A small amount is sufficient. Warm it between the fingertips and press a thin layer onto the areas requiring additional protection.

Is Midnight Balm suitable for oily or blemish-prone skin?

Its rich combination of oils, fatty esters and occlusive ingredients may feel heavy on oily or highly congestion-prone skin. Use it only on dry areas and patch test before applying it broadly.

Is it non-comedogenic?

Le Mieux does not publish a finished-product non-comedogenic test on the product page. We would not make an absolute non-comedogenic claim.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Le Mieux includes sensitivity among its intended concerns, and the ceramide-rich formula may help comfort dry skin. However, it contains rosewood oil, so fragrance-reactive or essential-oil-sensitive clients should patch test carefully.

Is Midnight Balm fragrance-free?

No added parfum is listed, but the formula contains rosewood wood oil, a naturally aromatic essential oil. It should not be presented as fragrance-free.

Can I use it with Dream Drops?

Yes. Apply Dream Drops first, moisturizer second if needed and Midnight Balm last. This creates a hydrating, barrier-supporting and moisture-sealing nighttime routine.

Can I use it with retinol?

Possibly, but caution is required. Applying an occlusive balm over retinol may intensify penetration and irritation. Use Midnight Balm on non-retinol evenings or apply it only to untreated dry areas.

Can I use it with exfoliating acids?

Avoid sealing exfoliating acids beneath Midnight Balm until you know how your skin tolerates the combination. Alternating evenings is the more cautious approach.

Can it help repair an over-exfoliated barrier?

Its ceramides, cholesterol and oils support moisture retention, but the rosewood oil may not suit actively irritated skin. If products that normally feel comfortable begin stinging, pause active ingredients and patch test the balm before use.

Can it be used after a facial?

It may be appropriate after a gentle hydrating facial, but the treating professional should make that decision according to the procedure performed and the condition of the skin.

Can it be used after laser, microneedling or a chemical peel?

Only when approved by the professional performing the procedure. Do not automatically apply it immediately after resurfacing treatments because the formula contains rosewood oil and multiple botanical extracts.

Can it be applied around the eyes?

Avoid the eyelids and lash line. Use Eye Revive Firming Cream around the orbital contour.

Can it be applied during the day?

It can be used on targeted dry areas, but its rich finish may feel heavy beneath sunscreen or makeup. It is designed primarily as an overnight treatment.

Will it stain my pillowcase?

Apply only a thin layer and allow it to settle before going to bed. Excess product may transfer to fabric.

Does it contain retinol or exfoliating acids?

No retinol, retinoid, glycolic acid, lactic acid or salicylic acid appears in the published ingredient list.

Does it contain peptides?

Yes. The formula contains palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 to support smoother, firmer-looking skin.

Does it contain ceramides?

Yes. Midnight Balm contains five ceramides: EOP, NS, NP, AS and AP.

Is it suitable for clients with nut allergies?

The formula contains argan kernel oil and shea butter extract. Anyone with a known nut allergy should review the product with a qualified healthcare professional before use.

Is Midnight Balm vegan?

Le Mieux does not confirm vegan status on the official product page, and the source of the cholesterol is not disclosed. We would not market it as vegan without written manufacturer confirmation.

Can it be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No retinoid appears in the published formula. However, it contains rosewood oil and several botanical extracts, and pregnancy safety information for finished cosmetic formulas is limited. Consult your physician or qualified healthcare provider before use.

How should it be stored?

Keep the jar tightly closed in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. The balm may soften in warm conditions without necessarily affecting product quality.
