Why It Is Different

Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax rather than a conventional plant oil. Its wax-esters give it a lightweight texture and affinity with the skin’s natural lipid environment, helping soften and condition without an overly occlusive sensation.

How to Use

Use morning and/or evening.

Apply two to five drops after moisturizer and gently press the oil into the face and neck. Use fewer drops for combination or oily skin and slightly more for dry or moisture-depleted skin.

Begin with two drops. Warm them between your fingertips and press the oil over the skin, concentrating on areas that feel depleted. Adding too much can leave even a lightweight oil sitting on the surface.

Jojoba Oil and Skin Sebum

Jojoba is frequently described as being identical to human sebum, but that language oversimplifies the science.

Jojoba is composed primarily of long-chain wax esters, while human sebum contains a more complex mixture of triglycerides, fatty acids, squalene, cholesterol and wax esters. Their shared wax-esters help explain jojoba’s light, skin-compatible texture, but the two substances are not chemically identical.

Jojoba oil cannot train the skin to permanently produce less oil or physically shrink pores. By softening the skin and helping prevent moisture loss, however, it can support a more balanced and refined-looking complexion.
