The September Edit | Gift with Purchase | LOSHEN & CREM

An award-winning Alpine bath oil with hand-harvested hayflower extract, nourishing plant oils and antioxidant-rich astaxanthin to soften the skin and restore a profound sense of wellbeing.

Inspired by the flowering meadows of Austria’s Bregenzerwald, Susanne Kaufmann Hayflower Bath Oil transforms an everyday bath into an opulent Alpine ritual.

Hand-harvested hayflower extract is blended with sweet almond, rapeseed, sunflower and wheat germ oils to envelop dry skin in replenishing lipids. Blood rain algae—a natural source of the antioxidant astaxanthin—gives the oil its distinctive red tone while helping support a smoother, revitalised appearance.

An aromatic blend of spruce needle, lavender, thyme and rosemary oils grounds the senses in the scent of the Alpine landscape. Once added to warm water, the rich oil disperses into a delicate milky veil, leaving the skin feeling silky, comforted and deeply nourished.

Named Best for Relaxation in the Tatler Beauty Awards 2024.

Recommended For

Hayflower Bath Oil is especially suited to:

  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Skin that feels rough, tight or depleted
  • Mature skin needing additional nourishment
  • Tired bodies after travel or physical activity
  • Evening relaxation and recovery rituals
  • Cold-weather body care
  • Anyone who enjoys herbal, floral or forest-inspired aromas
  • Those seeking a more nourishing alternative to traditional bath salts

The formula contains sweet almond oil, essential oils, linalool and limonene. Those with nut allergies, fragrance sensitivities or highly reactive skin should review the ingredient list carefully before use.

Why It’s Different

Hayflower Bath Oil is rooted in a traditional Alpine bathing ingredient: hayflowers gathered from the meadows of Austria’s Bregenzerwald.

Its plant-oil base delivers more than fragrance. Rapeseed, sweet almond, sunflower, wheat germ and jojoba oils provide fatty acids and emollients that help condition the skin throughout the bath. A naturally derived emulsifier allows the oil to disperse through the water, creating its signature milky transformation.

Astaxanthin-rich blood rain algae adds antioxidant support and the formula’s distinctive red colour, while the aromatic essential-oil blend turns bathing into a grounding sensorial ritual.

Aroma and Bathing Experience

The aroma is fresh, herbal and softly floral, with the green character of Alpine meadows.

Spruce needle and rosemary provide a crisp botanical opening, lavender introduces softness, and thyme adds a warm herbaceous depth. It is tranquil and nature-inspired without becoming overly sweet.

The red-toned oil disperses into a delicate milky veil when mixed with warm water. It does not create traditional bubbles or foam.

How to Use

As a Bath Oil

  1. Fill the bathtub with comfortably warm water.
  2. Pour approximately 30–50 ml of Hayflower Bath Oil into the water.
  3. Swirl gently until the oil disperses and the water appears milky.
  4. Immerse the body and relax for approximately 20 minutes, or for as long as feels comfortable.
  5. Step out carefully, as bath oils may make the tub slippery.
  6. Pat the skin dry rather than rubbing.

After Showering

  1. Apply a small amount to clean, wet skin.
  2. Massage gently over the body.
  3. Rinse lightly with warm water.
  4. Pat the skin dry to preserve its soft, conditioned feel.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Due to the use of active natural ingredients, the colour or appearance of the product may vary without affecting its performance.

Loshen & Crem’s Recommendation

This is the most sensorial and luxurious of the Susanne Kaufmann bath oils—a beautiful choice when dry skin and a tired body need care at the same time. The milky transformation, deep red oil and Alpine aroma make the ritual feel wonderfully special.

For the full experience, warm the bathroom, dim the lights and allow yourself an uninterrupted 20-minute soak. Follow with Susanne Kaufmann Marigold Body Oil on slightly damp skin. If your skin is exceptionally dry, layer Body Butter over the oil to help seal in moisture.

For a more invigorating ritual earlier in the week, alternate with Mountain Pine Bath.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Susanne Kaufmann Hayflower Bath Oil?

Susanne Kaufmann Hayflower Bath Oil is a 250 ml nourishing bath oil formulated with hand-harvested Alpine hayflower extract, sweet almond oil, rapeseed oil and astaxanthin-rich blood rain algae. It disperses into warm water to create a milky, aromatic soak that leaves skin feeling soft and conditioned.

What does Hayflower Bath Oil smell like?

It has a fresh herbal and softly floral aroma inspired by Alpine meadows. Spruce needle, rosemary, lavender and thyme create a sophisticated botanical scent that feels both grounding and restorative.

Why is the oil red?

The formula contains Haematococcus pluvialis, also known as blood rain algae. This microalga is naturally rich in the red antioxidant astaxanthin and contributes to the oil’s distinctive colour.

Will the bath water remain red?

When the oil is mixed into warm water, it disperses into a soft milky veil rather than leaving the bath water intensely red.

Does Hayflower Bath Oil create bubbles?

No. It is an emulsifying bath oil rather than a bubble bath. It transforms the water into a milky, conditioning soak without producing foam.

How much should I use?

Add approximately 30–50 ml to a full bath. A 250 ml bottle provides approximately five to eight baths, depending on the amount used.

How long should I soak?

Approximately 20 minutes is ideal, although you may adjust the bathing time according to your comfort.

Can Hayflower Bath Oil be used outside the bath?

Yes. After showering, massage a small amount over clean, wet skin and rinse lightly. Pat the skin dry afterward to maintain its soft, nourished feel.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

The brand lists Hayflower Bath Oil as suitable for sensitive skin. However, it contains aromatic essential oils, linalool and limonene. Highly reactive or fragrance-sensitive skin should use it cautiously.

Is Hayflower Bath Oil suitable for someone with a nut allergy?

The formula contains sweet almond oil. Anyone with a known nut or almond allergy should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before use or choose a product without nut-derived ingredients.

Will it leave the bathtub slippery?

Like most bath oils, it may make the tub surface slippery. Step out carefully and rinse the bathtub thoroughly after use.

Can I use body moisturiser afterward?

Yes. Although the oil leaves the skin conditioned, very dry skin may benefit from Body Butter or Marigold Body Oil applied while the skin is still slightly damp.

What award did Hayflower Bath Oil win?

Hayflower Bath Oil was selected as Best for Relaxation in the Tatler Beauty Awards 2024.

What is the difference between Hayflower Bath Oil and Mountain Pine Bath?

Hayflower Bath Oil has a richer plant-oil base that turns the bath water milky and focuses on conditioning dry skin while encouraging relaxation.

Mountain Pine Bath has a fresh coniferous aroma and a lighter bathing texture. It is ideal when the body and senses feel tired and need an invigorating reset.

What is the difference between Hayflower Bath Oil and St. John’s Wort Bath?

Hayflower Bath Oil is a liquid oil that emulsifies into a milky soak and features an herbal Alpine aroma.

St. John’s Wort Bath is an effervescent powder with cocoa butter and milk protein, formulated primarily to comfort exceptionally dry or depleted skin.

What size is Hayflower Bath Oil?

The bottle contains 250 ml.
