THE FACE + BODY + SCALP SEBUM RESET
Most masks stop at the jawline.
Masque Bain de Plantes doesn't.
Biologique Recherche Masque Bain de Plantes is a purifying and sebum-regulating treatment created for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Skin and Scalp Instants.
Designed for the face, body and scalp, its botanical and clay-based formula helps remove excess surface sebum while supporting a more balanced environment without intentionally stripping or dehydrating the skin.
This makes Bain de Plantes particularly interesting when excess oil isn't confined to your T-zone.
Think:
oily face + oily scalp + oily body areas = one very targeted treatment philosophy.
Skin + Scalp Instant:
Recommended for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Skin and Scalp Instants.
We particularly think about Masque Bain de Plantes when there is:
- Excess facial sebum
- A scalp that becomes oily very quickly
- Persistent shine
- Sebum buildup
- Oily roots
- Congested-looking body areas
- An oily T-zone
- Skin or scalp that feels coated
- Oily flakes associated with excess sebum
- A need for purification without aggressive degreasing
Sebum Is Not the Problem. Too Much Sebum Is.
Sebum has an important job.
It forms part of the protective lipid environment of the:
- Face
- Body
- Scalp
- Hair
It helps lubricate and protect the skin rather than simply making it “greasy.”
The concern begins when too much sebum accumulates.
Biologique Recherche refers to excessive sebum production as hyperseborrhea.
When that excess builds at the surface, you may notice:
- Increased shine
- Oily roots
- A heavier scalp
- Congestion
- Visible flakes
- Skin that seems to become oily again very quickly
The answer isn't necessarily to strip everything away.
Masque Bain de Plantes is designed around a smarter objective:
remove excess + regulate + rebalance.
Why This Mask Is Different
Masque Bain de Plantes is one of the more unusual products within Biologique Recherche because it isn't exclusively facial skincare.
The same sebum-regulating philosophy can be relevant anywhere sebaceous activity becomes excessive.
That gives it a rare three-zone role:
FACE
For seborrheic Skin Instants and excess shine.
BODY
For areas where excess sebum or congestion may occur.
SCALP
For seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Scalp Instants that become oily or coated quickly.
It is less “face mask.”
More sebum management treatment.
How to Use on the Face:
- Apply Masque Bain de Plantes over the face, neck and décolleté.
- Avoid the eye contour area.
- Leave on for 15 minutes.
- Emulsify with cold water, then rinse thoroughly using moistened non-woven gauze or soft cotton.
- Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
- In case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
For external use only.
Using Masque Bain de Plantes on the Scalp
Biologique Recherche currently recommends Masque Bain de Plantes for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Scalp Instants as well as the face and body.
Because scalp needs, hair colour and the rest of your haircare routine can vary significantly, we prefer personalizing the scalp protocol rather than publishing one universal frequency for everyone.
Important: Biologique Recherche specifically advises not using Masque Bain de Plantes on bleached hair.
If you are using the mask primarily for an oily scalp, our team can help you determine how to integrate it with Lotion P50 Capillaire and your current shampoo routine.
Loshen & Crem’s Recommendation:
Masque Bain de Plantes is the product we think about when someone tells us:
- “My scalp is oily the day after I wash it.”
- “My face is oily, but honestly my scalp is worse.”
- “I feel like I'm constantly trying to degrease everything.”
- “My roots always feel coated.”
- “I use a lot of dry shampoo.”
- “Masque Vivant works for my face, but I want something for my scalp too.”
That last one is exactly where Bain de Plantes earns its place.
It isn't Masque Vivant 2.0.
It solves a different problem.
Masque Vivant is one of our favourite facial rebalancing treatments.
Bain de Plantes allows us to extend the conversation to the scalp and body when excess sebum isn't confined to the face.
Masque Bain de Plantes vs. Masque Vivant
They are both purifying, but they are not interchangeable.
Choose Masque Vivant when your primary concerns are:
- Facial blemishes
- Congestion
- Excess facial sebum
- Visible pores
- A need for an iconic facial rebalancing treatment
Choose Masque Bain de Plantes when your concerns extend to:
- Hyperseborrhea
- Oily scalp
- Excess sebum on the face, body or scalp
- Oily roots
- Sebum regulation across multiple zones
Think:
- Masque Vivant → facial rebalancing icon
- Bain de Plantes → face + body + scalp sebum regulation
Masque Bain de Plantes vs. Lotion P50 Capillaire
If oily scalp is your main concern, these two products can sound similar.
Their roles are different.
Lotion P50 Capillaire is an exfoliating scalp lotion.
It focuses on:
- Surface buildup
- Scalp exfoliation
- Excess sebum
- Visible flakes
- Preparing and rebalancing the scalp
Masque Bain de Plantes is a treatment mask focused more specifically on:
- Sebum regulation
- Purification
- Hyperseborrheic Scalp Instants
- A treatment step rather than a leave-on exfoliating lotion
Think:
- P50 Capillaire → exfoliate the scalp
- Bain de Plantes → rebalance excess sebum
Depending on your Scalp Instant, one may be enough — or they may serve complementary roles.
Oily Scalp vs. Dandruff: Not Always the Same Thing
Flakes don't automatically mean dry scalp.
An oily scalp can also experience visible scaling.
Excess sebum may accumulate around the scalp surface and hair follicles, contributing to a coated feeling and oily-looking flakes.
But dandruff and scalp flaking can have many causes.
If you are experiencing:
- Significant itching
- Persistent redness
- Soreness
- Heavy scaling
- Hair loss
we recommend appropriate assessment rather than assuming every flaky scalp simply needs stronger purification.
Dry Shampoo + Sebum Buildup
Dry shampoo can be fantastic.
It can also become a lifestyle.
When repeatedly layered between washes, powders and starches can combine with:
- Sebum
- Sweat
- Styling products
- Environmental residue
and contribute to that heavy, coated scalp feeling.
This is where a true scalp-focused routine becomes useful.
Rather than simply adding more dry shampoo on top, you may need to rethink what is happening at the skin underneath the hair.

Questions We Get About Masque Bain de Plantes
What is Biologique Recherche Masque Bain de Plantes?
Masque Bain de Plantes is a purifying and sebum-regulating treatment designed for the face, body and scalp.
Biologique Recherche specifically recommends it for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Skin and Scalp Instants.
Is Masque Bain de Plantes good for oily skin?
Yes.
Regulating excess sebum is one of its primary current uses.
Is Masque Bain de Plantes good for oily scalp?
Yes.
It is one of the relatively rare Biologique Recherche products specifically positioned for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Scalp Instants.
Can Masque Bain de Plantes be used on the body?
Yes.
Biologique Recherche describes it as a treatment for the face, body and scalp.
This can make it particularly useful when excess sebum or congestion affects more than just the face.
Does Masque Bain de Plantes treat dandruff?
Its purifying and sebum-regulating action can be relevant when oily flakes accompany a seborrheic scalp.
We would not position it as a medical dandruff treatment because scalp flaking can have several causes.
Does Masque Bain de Plantes detox the skin?
“Detoxifying” appears frequently in older descriptions of the product, but Biologique Recherche's current positioning is more precise:
- Purifying
- Sebum-regulating
- Rebalancing
That is the language we prefer.
Does Masque Bain de Plantes contain Zinc?
The current official Biologique Recherche ingredient list does not contain Zinc.
Older descriptions frequently referenced Zinc as part of the formula, but it is not present in the current INCI.
Does Masque Bain de Plantes contain clay?
Yes.
The current formula contains Illite, a mineral clay that helps absorb excess surface sebum.
Does it contain essential oils?
Yes.
The current formula includes Rosemary Leaf Oil and Thyme Flower/Leaf Oil, along with several naturally occurring aromatic constituents.
If you have known fragrance or essential-oil sensitivities, please contact us before purchasing.
Can sensitive skin use Masque Bain de Plantes?
The current primary recommendation is for seborrheic and hyper-seborrheic Skin Instants rather than sensitivity.
The formula contains Alcohol, essential oils and several aromatic constituents, so highly reactive skin may require a different approach.
How long should I leave Masque Bain de Plantes on my face?
The current Biologique Recherche instructions specify 15 minutes.
Should I remove it with warm or cold water?
The current manufacturer instructions specify cold water.
How often should I use Masque Bain de Plantes on my scalp?
Older protocols often prescribed weekly or monthly schedules depending on seborrhea.
Biologique Recherche's current consumer page no longer publishes one universal scalp frequency.
At Loshen & Crem, we prefer adjusting use according to the Scalp Instant and the rest of your routine.
Can I use Masque Bain de Plantes before every shampoo?
That was part of older protocols for significant seborrhea, but it is not included in the current Biologique Recherche consumer directions.
We would personalize frequency rather than automatically recommending use before every wash.
Can I use Masque Bain de Plantes on bleached hair?
No.
Biologique Recherche currently specifically advises not using Masque Bain de Plantes on bleached hair.
What is the difference between Masque Bain de Plantes and Masque Vivant?
Masque Vivant is primarily an iconic facial rebalancing treatment for excess oil and blemishes.
Masque Bain de Plantes is designed to regulate excess sebum across the face, body and scalp and is specifically recommended for hyper-seborrheic Skin and Scalp Instants.
What is the difference between Masque Bain de Plantes and Lotion P50 Capillaire?
Lotion P50 Capillaire is an exfoliating scalp lotion.
Masque Bain de Plantes is a sebum-regulating and purifying mask.
One focuses more heavily on exfoliation and buildup; the other focuses on regulating excess sebum.
