Good Skin Starts From Within: The Importance of Sleep and Your Health

Good Skin Starts From Within

The importance of sleep for your health and glowing skin.

The importance of a regular skincare routine is top of the list for clear, healthy skin. However, the truth is that good skin starts from within. If we don’t nourish ourselves as a whole, body, mind and spirit, our skin will reflect the aspects we’re ignoring the most.

Stress is a top complaint about health concerns. It can attribute to acne breakouts, eczema, hives, hair loss, sleep disturbances, digestive issues, depression, anxiety, and even increased heart and stroke risk. Proper nutrition is a preventative measure, but getting all the vitamins and minerals we need from our food isn’t always possible. Creating a self-care pattern and implementing nutritional supplements into your daily routine can help reset your system and deliver nutrients missing in your diet.

Today, we’re going to talk about sleep. Sleep is one of the most important factors to good health and is usually interrupted by stress. When you close your eyes, your brain processes the events of the day, helping to improve long-term memory, cortisol levels decrease, and your body goes into a state of repair. When at rest, your immune system releases cytokines that heal inflammation, infection and trauma within your body.

One night of interrupted sleep is common, but long-term sleep disruptions can become dangerous. Creating a bedtime routine and adding supplements from ATP Lab, such as Optisom with melatonin, can help reset the circadian rhythm.*

A bedtime routine can be simple and begin hours before you crawl under the sheets. One of my favourite rituals is to cleanse my skin, apply a face mask and soak for 20 minutes in a salt bath. Afterwards, I make a cup of tea and read before bed. This action signals to my brain that it’s time to wind down and prepare for slumber. Blue light from devices such as television, phones, computers and tablets suppresses melatonin, making it more difficult to fall asleep. My rule of thumb is to put the phone down 30 mins before bedtime.

How we wake up also has an impact on the day. Once the circadian rhythm resets, our body will wake itself up naturally without an alarm. However, if you aren’t much of a morning person, that blaring melody on your phone will shock your body and brain into a stress response and can frazzle your nerves. Using Stressless with Relora®  twice a day can help reduce stress levels and feeling more relaxed.

Getting 7 hours of shut-eye is paramount to proper brain function, a healthy heart and glowing skin. Loshen & Crem is happy to welcome ATP Lab into our family of products to promote a healthy body and healthy skin synergistically. When we start from within, we can have beautiful skin.
