Is Elta MD a Good Brand?

Elta MD isn’t just a good brand, it’s an excellent brand!

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends 17 sunscreen-related Elta MD products. Their broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB rays, which cause aging and sunburns. It saves the face and other areas on your body from damage, all while catering to sensitive skin and combination skin - virtually every skin type.

What is the Difference Between Elta MD UV Clear, UV Clear Tinted, and UV Daily Tinted?

Elta MD offers various products for sun protection, but for those new to the brand, here are the differences between the more popular facial sunscreen products:

Elta MD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46

This is made for hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and acne-prone skin types. The formula calms and protects against acne while providing UVA and UVB protection.

Elta MD UV Clear Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 46

This is made for hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and acne-prone skin types. Sensitive skin types are calmed and protected against discoloration and break-outs.

Elta MD UV Daily Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 40

This is made for normal, combination, and post-procedure skin. Unlike the other two types of facial sunscreen, UV Daily Tinted does not contain octyldodecyl neopentanoate or lactic acid. It moisturizes and protects against UVA and UVB rays.

      These three products contain:

      • Hyaluronic Acid
      • Zinc Oxide
      • Sodium hyaluronate
      • Oleth 3 phosphate
      • PEG-7 Trimethylolpropane Coconut Ether
      • Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate
      • Butylene Glycol
      • Tocopheryl Acetate

All three require the same application: Apply liberally to the face, neck, and back of the hands 15 minutes prior to sun exposure.

      What is Tinted Sunscreen?

Tinted sunscreen contains mineral filters, such as zinc oxide, that blends more easily with various skin tones.

For example, the UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen has encapsulated pigments called iron oxides. The iron oxides break up when in contact with the skin, but it won’t leave that white residue that regular sunscreen leaves behind. Instead, Elta MD’s cream formulas blend in.

The iron oxides reflect visible light away from the skin that regular sunscreen doesn’t do.
